Grommet inspection system        
After failed attempts with off the shelf vision inspection systems, ITW/Southland contracted with us to provide a system that could test grommets for defects. We created a fully automatic vision inspection system that tests for problems such as short shots, flashing issues, coating issues, and even cuts in the rubber itself. This system can test over 3600 parts per hour and can be switched over to run any one of 6 different part shapes in less than 5 minutes. This system was responsible for revolutionizing the way rubber grommets are tested.

Hot Melt roll coater        
For this project we were working with a Black Bros. roll coater.  The customer contracted us to design a system that could track adhesive usage and monitor application temperature to ensure substrate bonding . We tested many types of adhesives on different substrates. The pictures to the right show some of the sensors that we developed to make our measurements. At the conclusion of this project we were able to deliver a system that enabled the end customer to use less adhesive than before while still maintaining superior bond strength.

Pre-Applied re-melt system        
We were contracted to finish this project when the original development company could not provide positive results. For this project we constructed a duplicate production line in our shop to test different ways to perform the task of re-heating the adhesive. We came up with a system that was installed on the end customers line and refined it to perform the task without reducing production speed. We accomplished in 5 weeks what our competition could not in 5 months and the system is still in use today, 4 years later.

Envelope Quality Station

 

 

 

 

National Adhesives asked us to design and build a benchtop system that could test envelopes with the same precision as the system used by the USPS (Merlin) at a fraction of the cost.  We provided them with the EQ2100.  This system checks the adhesive bond that holds the envelop together, the amount of adhesive on the flap for sealing, the cellophane window for defects, and print/color of graphics if present.  This system helps National Adhesives stay ahead of the competition in the tough adhesives market.
